Although many of the Florida nursing homes do a good job of caring for their residents, occassionally nursing home residents can become victims of neglect and even abuse. The result can be pain and suffering or even premature death. Due to a resident’s age and health, they may not be capable of alerting others of what they are going through. Laws do require that nursing homes have a plan of care and also maintain proper staffing to provide all the care detailed in their care plan. Residents of nursing homes have patient rights and certain protections under the law.

Types of Nursing Home Neglect and Abuse: The most common types of elder neglect and abuse are malnutrition, dehydration, falls, pressure sores, infections and even assaults. Staffing and training deficiencies are often the cause of these injuries. There may even be other residents within the facility who are also being neglected or abused.
